Aoife Ahern - Passage player in u16 squad v Wales, at Spytty Park, Newport, 9.4.96.

B

Kendall Bartholemew - Another college player who turned up to the USA training camp in summer 2009. 5'5'' FW from Liberty University. Unused sub in opening 2-1 win over FC Indiana, not seen again. Listed as "Bartholemew Kendall" in the FAI reports.
Vivienne Bartley - Capped at u16 v Scotland Easter 1994. Not in (matchday) squad for u20 win over NI in Belfast, 29.10.94. But returned from injury to be named in u20 squad v France at Turner's Cross 12.11.94, was a 16yo schoolgirl playing for NEDL outfit 'Shambo'. Called into a revamped senior squad in November 1996 as a Botown player, alongside several other members of the Dana Cup-winning youth team.
Pauline Bolger - Cambridge player in squad v Belgium 27.10.80. NB. there is a Cambridge FC in Ringsend, Dublin.
Leanne Maria Bowler - 9.7.83 - FW from Cloughertown, St Catherine's player featured against England, Wales and Turkey at u18 Euro quals in Nov 2000 at Drogheda. Scholarship for Franklin Pierce Ravens 2004-07 'hometown' was listed as Clonalvy, Co Meath. Studied criminal justice and settled in NYC. Coached by Noel King while at St Brendan's in Artane.
Sally Bownes - 18yo (born 54 or 55) Elms United Galway "centre half back" listed in the programme for the historic 3-2 win in Wales, 13.5.73. Captain of the Galwegian "Michael Anthony's Team" and scored both goals (the second direct from a corner) in a 2-2 draw with Ballynanty (Limerick) in a prestige friendly at Terryland Park, May 1972. Also hit the equaliser in a return match at Markets Field the same month which finished 1-1 but Michael Anthony's lost on the toss of a coin. Michael Anthony's was a jeans factory on Seamus Quirke Road later taken over by Farah. The club became Elms United for the inaugural LLOI season in 1973. In the opening match 4.3.73 at West Park, versatile Bownes started at centre half before being pushed to inside forward, but could not avert a 1-0 defeat by Cahir. In May 1974 she was the captain of Elms Selected ("now known as Galway Town") in their 2-1 League final defeat by Kilkenny. Played Gaelic football for Galway and Connacht.
Jenny Brady - Cuckoo's Nest player in u18s squad for the Gothia Cup win in July 1995. Cuckoo's Nest player in Mick Cooke's u18 squad for friendly v Australia at Belfield, 18.12.96. 65th-min Sub for C Grant in 6-0 u20 win over NI in Belfast, 29.10.94. Named in u20 squad v France at Turner's Cross 12.11.94, was a 17yo student playing for DWSL outfit 'Cuckoo's Nest'. Sub in Shamrock Rovers' 4-0 LFAI Cup final win over Shelbourne at the Iveagh Grounds, August 1997. Played for Shamrock Rovers in the DWSL League Cup final 9.11.97 at Tolka Park, which they lost to Shelbourne on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Lucy Brierton - L Brierton Glade Celtic player listed in prog for 3-3 draw w Scotland at Dalyer, 18.4.76. Listed first - GK? "L. Brierdon" listed in prog for 3-1 defeat in Bridgend, Wales 29.8.76. Signed copy of programme - first name looks like Lucy? "Lucy Brierton" scored two in Casualty United's 3-0 Leinster Ladies Soccer League win over Clerys, 19.5.71 (a Wednesday night fixture). Lucy Brierton was the captain of Blades Celtic 5-a-side team in October 1976.
Catherine Brown - Played (apparently in goal) for an ex-International X1 v Limerick League at Jackman Park in October 1997: "...keepers Mary Gavin and later Catherine Brown were never really tested..." - Limerick Leader. A Catherine Browne was in the Rathfarnham United squad which went to the Lyons tournament in April 1981. Catherine Brown was an E.I. defender in the Limerick team which beat Land Registrars (Dublin) 3-2 at Ringsend Park in the FAI Women's Cup semi, July 1975: "Mary Joyce, Ann Cross and Catherine Brown were sound in the backs". Pictured in the Analog team photo ahead of the "All-Ireland soccer final" (President's Cup?) v Suffragettes at the Mary Immaculate College grounds, 13.12.81. Mentioned as one of the "absent regulars" in the League of Ireland final at the Waterford Glass grounds, 6.7.75, understrength Limerick shocked 4-3 by Avengers (Dublin), their first league defeat which cost them a third consecutive "Kevin Gaynor perpetual". Captained Analog to a 2-1 win over Bank of Ireland (Limerick) in the Limerick League division 1 final, August 1981, hitting the winning goal from the spot. "Catherine Browne" played for the Limerick X1 in the 3-1 defeat by tourists Reims, 21.8.73. Katherine Brown named an outstanding player for Limerick in their 1-1 draw with the Ireland national team at Markets Field, 29.5.76.
Yvonne Burton - Cremona player in first-ever u18 squad v NI 31.8.80.
Mary Burke - Waterford player called up for the 1-1 draw in Larne, 13.5.78 (according to the Cork Evening Echo).
Aisling Byrne - Started u20 team's 6-0 win in NI, 29.10.94, her first cap. Retained place in u20 squad for friendly v France at Turners Cross, 12.11.94. 19yo player for Cuckoo's Nest in the DWSL.
Christina Byrne - Raheny United player in squad for 2 friendlies in Wales, 24 and 26 April 2007 in Tredegar and Goytre.
Jennifer "Jenny" Byrne - 5.3.93 - 2017 Rose of Tralee winner, medical doctor and dual code football star. From Clonaderig near the Offaly/Westmeath border and went to school in Ballinahown and then at Our Lady's Bower in Athlone. Studied medicine at NUI Galway and had a five year career with the soccer team, including winning the 2016 WSCAI All-Ireland. Part of the U17 "golden generation" which reached the final of the 2010 Euros then went to the U17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago. Was attached to Bealnamulla LFC at the time. 5'11" centre-half with a delicate touch, could also play in midfield. Graduated to the u19s for their Euro campaign in 11-12. Won the 2011 Intermediate All-Ireland Gaelic football title with Westmeath at Croke Park. The late Jeremy Dee signed her up for Castlebar Celtic in 2011 and she played the first two WNL seasons with the Mayo outfit. Signed for newly-formed Galway WFC for 2013-14. Didn't play in 14-15 but came back for 15-16. Played for Irish Universities at the Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea in July 2015. At the time of her Rose of Tralee win in August 2017 was still with Galway WFC but nursing an injury and working as a junior doctor in the A and E ward of UHG. The oft-derided event (cf. Father Ted's "Lovely Girls Competition") is allegedly not a beauty contest and is run on an inter-county basis, Byrne qualifying as Rose of Offaly. Most of the next year was spent on leave from her day-job, making appearances and international jet-setting.

Deirdre "Dee" Callanan - Cork CIT / Wilton United player named in Myles Kelly's squad for the Universiade in Daegu, Korea, August 2003. Unused sub in the 2-1 friendly win over the Faroes in Klaksvik 12.10.04. Centre-half and free-kick specialist from Grange, Cork. "I've always played centre-half for Wilton but when I've moved up in levels I've moved to right or left back because I wouldn't be the tallest". Wilton stalwart, joined at 12yo won the 1996 u16 and u18 LFAI Cups, the 2004 Intermediate FAI Cup. Played for the combined Cork select team which lost in the 2004 senior WFAI Cup semi-final to Dundalk at Turners Cross. Played for Wilton in their 2011 Intermediate Women's FAI Cup final defeat by St. Catherine's. Captained Wilton to Steve Quinn Cup glory in 2017. In 2007 (Wilton's FAI Cup semi defeat by Galway) was a Garda (police officer) based in New Ross, Waterford.
Ann Campbell - Lands and Forestry (Civil Service League) player named in Tony Kelly's provisional 23-player squad for opening Euro 84 qualifier in Dunfermline 19.9.82 - but didn't make the final 16 to travel.
Eleanor Carroll - A 14yo Cahir LFC Tipperary player listed in the programme for the historic 3-2 win in Wales, 13.5.73. 'Elinor O'Carroll' was a Cahir midfielder "in Irish panel" for 1973 Wales match and Irish X1 v Reims at Kilkenny 26.8.73. An Eleanor Carroll was in Tipp's 1974 all-Ireland winning ladies Gaelic football team.
Breda Christie - Finglas United player named in Fran Rooney's U18 squad for 'Millenium International' v NI at Tolka Park 26.11.88. Went on to a successful spell at Castle Rovers.
Ann Church - Dubliner FW listed as an international player in Rathfarnham United's squad for 1988 LFAI Cup final v Boyne Rovers at Glebe North FC, Balbriggan. Played in Verona's 4-0 1994 LFAI Cup final defeat by Welsox, 25.9.94 at Richmond Road (Park?). She was 35yo player/manager of the two-year-old club. She had shrugged off a knee injury and cruciate transplant 3 years earlier which made her doc tell her to quit soccer. Still playing for Rathfarnham in the DWSL, July 1997. Played for Verona in their 3-1 LFAI Cup QF win over her former club Rathfarnham, Parish Fields, Blanchardstown, 15.8.93. Scored "forty yard special" to put Rathfarnham ahead with 10 mins remaining in their 2-0 LFAI Cup final replay win over Belvedere at Dalyer, 9.10.85. Rathfarnham player named on standby v NI, Dalyer 23.10.83. Listed in the Rathfarnham United squad which went to the Lyons tournament in April 1981. Listed as a Rathfarnham player in the Leinster Ladies League squad for a "Bracken" Trophy fixture at Galway, 5.7.81.
Cathy Clarke - Top Shots (Sligo) starlet on the Republic u18 panel beaten 1-0 by NI at Inver Park, Larne, 8.8.81.
Janet Clarke - J. Clarke Kells player named in the squad for Ireland's creditable 0-0 with Holland at Dalyer, 29.4.90. Janet Clarke in Arsenal squad 91/92 and 92/93 (their first Emerald Isle import?) Was in the squad for the WPL Cup win over Millwall Lionesses 91/92. Was listed as understudy GK to Lesley Shipp and as an Eire youth international. In 92/93 team photo she was there in the middle next to Shipp, but in an outfield shirt? Maybe they only had one goalkeeper kit. In Arsenal v Wimbledon prog 25.10.92 she was listed as having played in all three reserve matches so far that season. In the second match, against Tottenham, goalkeeper Ruth Gold was injured and Marlene Egan went in goal... (not Clarke? So maybe she wasn't a GK?) Janet Clarke Eire U18 player signed for Bromley Borough from Arsenal in 93/94 and made 18 appearances (10 league) scoring one goal as they won the WPL South and were promoted to the National League. "Janet can operate from any position in the defence". Remained with the club when they turned into Croydon WFC but was increasingly restricted to the second team. Captain of the reserves in Croydon's 95/96 Double-winning campaign and was recalled to the first team for the monster end of season fixture pile-up (but was not listed in the Cup final squad). Remained at Croydon in 96/97 where she was unimaginatively nicknamed "Clarkie".
Eileen Clooney - One of two Waterford players (w B Maher) to be selected for the 2-1 inter-League defeat by NI at Oriel Park, Dundalk, 12.10.74.
Sinead Coakley - Named in Myles Kelly's squad for the Universiade in Daegu, Korea, August 2003. Was attending IT Sligo while playing for DWSL club UCD, which must have entailed a lot of travelling.
Ann Coffey - A nurse at St Brendan's Hospital who plundered 50 goals for Dublin Castle in the 1983 CSL.
Amanda Coleman - Bealnamulla player named in u16 squad for April 98 triangular Tourney v Scotland and Wales in Conwy, Bangor and Porthmadog. Bealnamulla FW in squad for 2nd UEFA u18 Euro mini tourney 23-27 Nov 98, v Eng, Hol and Faroes, hosted in Eng. Lourdes Celtic player called up to u17 squad for friendly in NI, November 1996.
Madeleine Colwell - Kells team mate of G Byrne named in the 20-player squad for the 3.5.81 5-0 friendly defeat by England at Dalyer.
Catherine Cooke - College of Commerce, Cork and Wilton United player named in Myles Kelly's squad for the Universiade in Daegu, Korea, August 2003. Completed her 20th season with Wilton in 2013.
Catherine Cooley - Listed at no 14 for 3-3 draw with Wales at Limerick 26.5.74, a Suffragettes (Dublin) player.
Christine "Chrissie" Condon - Named in Eamonn Darcy's first WNT training session at Belfield 3.3.84. Kileady (Cork) player named in Tony Kelly's "very young squad" for opening Euro 84 qualifier in Dunfermline 19.9.82. Sub for Cork Select XI, in a 3-0 exhibition game defeat by Ireland WNT at the Mardyke, 19.8.84. Chris Condon played for Cork Rangers in a 5-1 LFAI Cup QF replay defeat by Rathfarnham, Loreto Park, July 1995. Played gaelic football for St Luke's in the Co Cork final, Oct 86, beaten 3-7 0-4 by Ilen Rovers. Caroline Nagle, Ann and Paula Goggin were teammates. 22.9.11 Evening Echo article recalled how she would crash with Dublin-based fellow centre half C Fitzpatrick when she travelled to Dublin for national team training. "I was involved in the senior national scene for two years at the age of 19". On 29.11.81 she scored the fifth for Cork Celtic "A" who beat Cork Celtic "B" 5-1 in the Cork Ladies Cup (AKA the Martin Russell Trophy) final at Mayfield. Signed by Cork Rangers from Killeady "to fill their problematic position at sweeper" ahead of the 1986 season. Joined Lakewood LFC (who merged with Cork Rangers) in approx. 1997. After retiring from playing she stayed involved and co-founded the Cork Women and Schoolgirl's Soccer League (CWSSL), remaining on the board for 17 years until 2015. Coached at Lakewood and also Wilton schoolgirls. "I finished up playing in 1999 at the age of 36 and I can say they were the most enjoyable years [...] I didn't decide to stop, my body told me to stop".

Laura Connolly - Kells player in u16 squad v Wales, at Spytty Park, Newport, 9.4.96.
Marian Conroy - A Dublin Castle player named as one of three standby players for the 0-1 ECQ defeat by England at Dalyer, 7.11.82. Also a Dublin county camogie star: "My life is all about sport". Played camogie for the Palmerstown, Austin Stacks and Celtic clubs. Marian Conroy (club=Central Statistics Office) was in a Dublin Civil Service League select team which played a "special challenge match" at Anne O'Brien's Reims 29.11.75. At Kilcohan Park, Waterford 4.11.84, Killeady Rangers drew a "brimful of thrills" LFAI Cup final with Dublin Castle 2-2 AET, but they lost on penalties: "The outstanding players afield were the two 'sweepers', Dublin skipper Maria Conroy and Cork's Christina Buckley". Originally from Laois (Emmet Street, she attended St Mary's College, Mountmellick) and was steeped in GAA - dad and brother county-level hurlers and her aunt was a county camogie player. Moved to Dublin to work in the civil service in 1971. In November 1982 Mountmellick Town Commission extended congratulations to Conroy: "Who has received a cap on the Irish Ladies international soccer team". But she wasn't in any of the FAI's team lists for the Euro quals?

Bridie Christie - Shamrock Rovers player called up by Mick Cooke for the 5-a-side tournament at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall, November 1993.
Ann Cross - 4 October 1997 Limerick Leader article said Grainne was one of 5 Cross sisters to play for Ireland (with Rose, Tracey, Ann and Catherine), while another 2 sisters Alice and Deirdre were outstanding Limerick League players: "Ann had the distinction of captaining Ranks, winners of the inaugural Limerick League in 1972". Played for an ex-International X1 v Limerick League at Jackman Park in October 1997: "...Mary Joyce, Ann Cross, Pauline Maher and Freda Noonan came on for the last 15 minutes..." - Limerick Leader. Ann Cross was a Shannon Diamond defender in the Limerick team which beat Land Registrars (Dublin) 3-2 at Ringsend Park in the FAI Women's Cup semi, July 1975: "Mary Joyce, Ann Cross and Catherine Brown were sound in the backs". Played in the League of Ireland final at the Waterford Glass grounds, 6.7.75, understrength Limerick shocked 4-3 by Avengers (Dublin), their first league defeat which cost them a third consecutive "Kevin Gaynor perpetual". Picked for the League of Ireland squad for the 9-1 defeat by Scottish League at Ravenscraig Stadium, Greenock, 17.3.74. Followed in the footsteps of brother Pat, who won a schoolboy cap v France. Winger and "schoolgoing" captain on the Prospect United team which sprang up in 1970, based out of Cals Park and coached by teenaged Fairview Rangers player Noel Hannon. Played for the Limerick X1 in the 3-1 defeat by tourists Reims, 21.8.73, Markets Field.
Catherine Cross - 4 October 1997 Limerick Leader article said Grainne was one of 5 Cross sisters to play for Ireland (with Rose, Tracey, Ann and Catherine), while another 2 sisters Alice and Deirdre were outstanding Limerick League players. Played in the LFAI Cup final at Markets Field, 7.9.75, when Limerick beat CSO (Dublin) 2-1. Mentioned as one of the "absent regulars" in the League of Ireland final at the Waterford Glass grounds, 6.7.75, understrength Limerick shocked 4-3 by Avengers (Dublin), their first league defeat which cost them a third consecutive "Kevin Gaynor perpetual". Also absent was Catherine Brown - not the same person. Played for the Limerick X1 in the 3-1 defeat by tourists Reims, 21.8.73, Markets Field.
Rose Cross - One of 6 Limerick League players in Tony Kelly's 1st squad v NI in Newry 14.6.80. 4 October 1997 Limerick Leader article said Grainne was one of 5 Cross sisters to play for Ireland (with Grainne, Tracey, Ann and Catherine), while another 2 sisters Alice and Deirdre were outstanding Limerick League players. Played for an ex-International X1 v Limerick League at Jackman Park in October 1997: "...the ex-internationals defence of Marion Slattery, Rose Cross and Imelda O'Hanlon were rock solid..." - Limerick Leader. Pictured in the Analog team photo ahead of the "All-Ireland soccer final" (President's Cup?) v Suffragettes at the Mary Immaculate College grounds, 13.12.81. Later Rose Benson, was on the Treaty United WU17 team coaching staff in 2021. Played for Analog in a 2-1 win over Bank of Ireland (Limerick) in the Limerick League division 1 final, August 1981.
Linda Crowe - Kells player in u18s squad for the Gothia Cup win in July 1995. Came on for O Rankin in the final. Elm Rovers (DWSL) FW w 1 goal in u20 development team's 6-0 win over NI in Belfast, 29.10.94: "The goal of the game - a 25-yard drive". Named in u20 squad v France at Turner's Cross 12.11.94, still a 16yo schoolgirl at St Mary's College. Her youth team coach was Marie Conway, legendary captain of Kevin Gaynor's Dundalk LFC team.
Maggie Crowley - Drumcondra player in squad for friendly v NI 2.11.85, per the match programme. The Evening Press preview said she played for Werburgh Street - unclear if they published her address by accident!
Mairead Culhane - Magcobar (Limerick) player in squad v Belgium 27.10.80. Stood out for Magcobar United in their 4-2 Limerick Cup final win over Bank of Ireland at Shanagolden, 12.10.80, impressing the watching WNT boss Tony Kelly, who gave her a call-up.
Ann Cummins - Tolka Swifts player selected for the friendly in Scotland at Tynecastle, 27.5.84.

Brigid Daly - One of four Limerick players to be selected for the 2-1 inter-League defeat by NI at Oriel Park, Dundalk, 12.10.74. "A comparative newcomer to soccer and richly deserving of this honour". From Patrickswell. Bridget Darcy (same person?) was an All Blacks midfielder in the Limerick team which beat Land Registrars (Dublin) 3-2 at Ringsend Park in the FAI Women's Cup semi, July 1975: "Bridget Darcy was as consistent as ever at midfield". Bridget Darcy played in the League of Ireland final at the Waterford Glass grounds, 6.7.75, understrength Limerick shocked 4-3 by Avengers (Dublin), their first league defeat which cost them a third consecutive "Kevin Gaynor perpetual".

Margaret Delaney - Schoolgirl Evergreen (Kilkenny) MF named in squad v Wales but withdrew due to her Leaving Cert exams. Emfa player picked for a "7 day match tour of Italy" in September 1972 (which apparently never happened).
Alice Dodrill - Belvedere player named in Fran Rooney's U18 squad for 'Millenium International' v NI at Tolka Park 26.11.88. Played in Verona's 4-0 1994 LFAI Cup final defeat by Welsox, 25.9.94 at Richmond Road (Park?). Scored twice (listed as "Alice Doodill") for Verona in their 3-1 LFAI Cup QF win over Rathfarnham at Parish Fields, Blanchardstown, 15.8.93.
Carol Doherty - 11.7.79 - Moville player in u18s squad for the Gothia Cup win in July 1995. A player in the Carndonagh Community School team which won the 1995 FAIS Senior Cup. She scored in the 2-0 extra time win over Presentation Convent, Limerick (for whom Y Tracy was a sub) at Finn Park, 6.5.95. "Carn" made the final again in 1997 and Doherty was listed as a FW or RW with the Greencastle club.
Nadine Doherty - Letterkenny Rovers player named in u16 squad for April 98 triangular Tourney v Scotland and Wales in Conwy, Bangor and Porthmadog.
Marian Donnelly - G.S.O. player listed in Prog for 3-3 draw w Scotland at Dalyer, 18.4.76. A Marian Donnelly scored for Land Registrars (Dublin) in their 3-2 Cup semi-final defeat by Limerick, Ringsend Park, July 1975. Marian Donnelly scored for Drimnagh Bosco in their 3-2 Drumcondra Cup semi-final win over Jeyes, at Phoenix Park 25.5.71. Rated as a "speedster" winger. M. Donnelly Land Reg. Dublin player listed in the programme for the first home WNT match against NI 30.6.73 at Bluebell United FC on the Naas Road.
Nicole Douglas - English-born Arizona State "Sun Devils" forward, reported to be training with the senior WNT ahead of the Greece game in March 2020 and awaiting FIFA clearance to play. A former Chelsea prospect with English U17 and U19 caps, who scored in Ireland's 5-0 pasting by England at the U17 Euros in Czechia, May 2017. Part of the 'granny rule' talent trawl which turned up Kyra Carusa and Meagan Doyle.
Deborah Doyle - Ballyfermot United player called up for the 1-0 win over NI in Drogheda 2.3.86.
Maegen Doyle - English-born Bridgeport "Purple Knights" graduate, reported to be training with the senior WNT ahead of the Greece game in March 2020 and awaiting FIFA clearance to play. In the event she was crocked by a hamstring injury. From Harwich, a former Colchester United and Basildon player with England U19 caps (back in 2010/11). Part of the 'granny rule' talent trawl which turned up Kyra Carusa and Nicole Douglas. Played UWS for Connecticut Fusion in 2019 and 2020. Purple Knights MF/FW (2016-2019).
Christine Drain - 10.10.83 - GK. West Belfast Catholic who aroused consternation at IFA HQ when she declared for the Republic in summer 1999 despite already having 3 senior NI caps. Won third NI cap against Ireland at 99 Milk Cup, as a favour because they were struggling for players. She said IFA women's team was even more of a shambles than FAI. Was a pal and neighbour of Ger Crossley, the Celtic kid who made the same switch from NI to the Republic. Was playing for Newtonabbey Strikers. Annie Dunne - Not listed in prog for 3-1 defeat in Bridgend, Wales 29.8.76. But in the signed copy of programme her name is one of the legible autographs? Part of a Dublin select team which travelled to NI for the Omagh Festival 20.8.83 and beat a local Omagh selection 7-0 before "a fairly large crowd" at The Showgrounds.
Audrey Dunne - Cremona player in first-ever u18 squad v NI 31.8.80. Cremona (Leinster Ladies League) player named in Tony Kelly's provisional 23-player squad for opening Euro 84 qualifier in Dunfermline 19.9.82 - but didn't make the final 16 to travel.
Celine Dunne - Unused sub in 6-0 u20 win over NI in Belfast, 29.10.94. But NOT in u20 squad v France at Turner's Cross 12.11.94. 26yo engineer in UCD's 2003 Uefa Women's Cup squad. A Celine Dunne turned out for "Newly-promoted Ballymun United" as they were clamped 8-0 at Benfica in April 1999 on the opening day of the DWSL Premier season.

Pamela Finnegan was a 16yo centre half from Dundalk, a member of the upwardly-mobile Boyne Rovers side who carried off the u17 and u19 LFAI Cups in 1984. Played Gaelic football for Louth and the Young Irelands club (where P Brennan (Gorham) was her captain). Was playing for CSL Div 1 champs Blacklion in 1991.
Jenna Fioranelli - 17.7.89 - MF - College player from MSU Racers who rocked up to the USA 10-week summer training camp and was given game time by Noel King. Played the 1st half in the opening 2-1 win over FC Indiana, listed as "Jenna Fiooralli" on the FAI report. Dad Daniel was the Irish connection.

Unused sub for the 3-0 ECQ defeat by Scotland at Richmond Park, 29.4.00. Detached a retina playing GAA and lost sight in one eye. Married Bryan Gaffney and settled in Cavan - kids Aoibhinn and Donnacha.
Theresa Furlong - Celebrated Wexford Gaelic football goalkeeper. A dental nurse who played for the Shelmaliers GAA club and joined the county team in 1982, playing at left corner fwd in 1983 All-Ireland final, then in goal from 1986. A 5.10.89 Wexford People article declared: "She was also a member of the Irish Ladies' national soccer team". An interesting bit from Dermot McCarthy in the 5.12.20 Wexford Youths v. Peamount United WNL match programme, entitled "Blast from the Past", detailed the 1984 County Wexford Women's Cup final: a Teresa Furlong was listed among the winning Forth Celtic side who beat Rosslare Rangers 1-0 on 29.4.84 (venue not stated).

Kate Gerrard - Striker from Glenmore Drive, Drogheda. LGFA star with Louth and bro Simon played for Louth GAA. Went to a soccer camp as the only girl aged 10yo and was recommended to the Congress Celtic club, where she remained until 15yo. Attended Our Lady's college in Drogheda then Colaiste Ide in Finglas - with the latter went on a US tour where she was spotted by college scouts. In Dublin she played for Templeogue (formed out of Shelbourne when the Shels club lost interest in their women's section). She had a prolific 2002 w Shamrock Rovers, the dominant team of the era. But she missed the 2002 UEFA Women's Cup campaign as took up scholarship w Cumberland University, near Nashville in August 2002 to study PE. Shams pal Marie Gallagher joined her the following year. Gerrard had trialled w Ireland U16s and hoped the USA scholarship would be a springboard to a senior cap. Later played gaelic footy for the Naomh Mairtin/Glen Emmets club. In Sept 2015 her extra-time winner for Boyne Rovers beat Manulla FC 2-1 in the FAI Women's Intermediate Shield final.

Scored twice for Whitehall Rangers in an FAI Women's Cup tie at Limerick in August 2018, but her side were drubbed 8-2. On 3.9.18 Graham's Whitehall lost 1-0 to Wilton United in the FAI Intermediate Cup final.

Jill Horan - 14.8.84 - Saudi-born, Atlanta USA-raised from 4yo (dad John a civil engineer). Based in Drangan from 10yo. Played 2003 u19 Euros, then switched to camogie where she enjoyed great success with Tipperary. Won the FAI Intermediate Cup with Cork outfit Wilton United in 2004. Also listed in the Cork League Select which reached the semi-final of the senior FAI Women's Cup but lost to Dundalk. The City Tribune expected a call up for the Wembley kickabout 17.4.88 ("Galway girl set to play at Wembley") but it apparently did not materialise. Was 21yo at the time.

"Centre forward and Irish international star" Ronnie Nagle scored a club record five goals for Cork Celtic in a 10-0 Cork League win over Rossa Rangers in August 1983 - Caroline scored two of the others. Showed up well for debutantes Sligo-Leitrim in their shock "Bracken" tournament win in 1993 and semi-final run the following year. Played in Oddsorts' penalty shootout defeat by West Star (Galway) in the FAI Intermediate Cup final at Ray MacSharry Park after a 2-2 draw. Oddsorts reached the semi-final of the senior LFAI Cup in 95 and 97. A Gaelic football star with Leitrim and the Aughawillan club. Won the all-Ireland in 1988 at Croke Park with sisters Deirdre and Mary also in the team. Named an LGFA all-star in 1984 (so must have been at least mid-late 20s for her soccer call-up). Eventually won two All-Irelands and three All-Stars and voted into the Leitrim sports HOF in 2017.

In 2013 had agreed a move to Orebro's 'big' team KIF, but it fell through due to the club's precarious finances. Instead joined Eskilstuna Utd and made 22 league appearances in the 2013 Elitettan-winning side, alongside L Quinn and M De Burca. Not kept on she played for Jitex BK in 2014, then Amazon Grimstad of Norway's Toppserien in 2015 (alongside E Beckett). Short spells with AIK Stockholm and Hovas Billdal in 2016 preceded a move to IF Brommapojkarna for 2017. She was with lower-league battlers Hasselby SK in 2019. Was browsing in H&M when it was hit by the 2017 Stockholm truck attack. Called up to a two-day senior training camp in August 2015: "I feel more Irish than Swedish," she said.
Jessie Stapleton - Called up for senior WNT home-based training camp at Abbotstown aged 13 (!) in August 2018, while attached to Cherry Orchard FC Boys. Blanchardstown native who joined the Cherries at 8yo. Scored and POTM on her U15 NT debut, 17.2.18, 2-1 win over NI. Joined Peamount United from the Chrerries in Jan 2019. Played for Shamrock Rovers in their 2-0 2020 U17 final defeat by Cork City at Athlone, and publicly hit out at the trolls who polluted the comments section of the online video stream. Signed for Shelbourne in Jan 2021. Excelled in Shels' 2-1 defeat at Peamount, 17.4.21, having a header ruled out for offside. Looked dominant and comfortable playing out from the back.

Aisling Toolan - 27.1.85 - Described as a "former Irish international soccer player and native of Dublin" when joining Brooklyn Nets of the NBA as director of physical therapy in June 2016. Peamount United captain in their 1-0 LFAI Cup final defeat by Dundalk, Lansdowne Road, 4.12.05. Played U17 and U19 stuff. Reportedly 6' tall and born in Belgium. Stony Brook University "Seawolves" in 2007, 18 appearances. Long Island Lady Riders 2006 (W-League), Long Island Fury (WPSL) 2008. Played at the 2005 Universiade in Izmir, 11-21 August 2005, where Ireland finished sixth. Named in senior squads v Sweden U21 30.4.05 and Faroes 6.6.05 - not sure if she got on for a cap?
Nicola Twohig - 28.4.87, Manchester - Man City player in squad for 2 friendlies in Wales, 24 and 26 April 2007 in Tredegar and Goytre. Blackburn Rovers, Man City, Liverpool DC capped at u19 level.

Suffragettes FC: Iconic Finglas-based women's soccer club Club was a family affair with links to Bohemian FC and the Dublin junior soccer circuit It retains a mythical status in Irish women's soccer RECORDS indicate Suffragettes FC were formed in 1970 in Finglas, Dublin. Early newspaper reports listed the team name as "Suffering Jets", implying they were formed as a giggle then got serious later on. The Doran soccer dynasty of Dublin's Northside  Godfather of Dublin junior soccer Andy Doran sadly died in December 1973, leaving his wife May, four daughters and three sons. Andy was a former All-Ireland junior Gaelic handball player and had been been an official of the Leinster Junior Soccer League for 10 years. His son John played soccer for Bohemian FC and daughters Dolores and Carol both played for Suffragettes. When an organic women's soccer boom engulfed Dublin, the Leinster Junior Soccer League had set up a women's section to cat
